Haunted by our institutions

If we graduate from a certain university or even if we hail from a certain place, we carry a distinct culture and mindset that I would term as the haunting of the institutions that have nurtured us. It may be good that such haunting often is clipped with the sense of pride of where we came from and of course our heartfelt gratitude of what those institutions have done for us but at times, the exercise and application of our certain cultures is a discomfort for others.

Let us take for example the culture and mindset of some of the students and alumni of the University of the Philippines. They usually would not settle for low paying jobs knowing that they have acquired a quality degree from the national university of the country. Not only are they choosy but they also tend to solicit a greater appreciation of their jobs as well as greater respect among their colleagues. Well maybe, this is the mainstream belief because most of the people I met really tend to follow that behavior. Some may call it over confidence and a sweeping assumption but it is a norm that is usually taken for granted.

There are however some cultures that go beyond what is tolerable. Let me cite a school in Baguio where the "cream of the crop" are said to be nurtured by a "respectable" institution. Most of the graduates of this institution I came to know are either too confident or has the tendency to belittle other people. I have observed that they most of the times put value on those people who are like them. I would like to disagree on this because I believe that the quality of the graduates of the institution is slowly crumbling. Today, most of them are brainwashed bullies who thinks highly of themselves and does not open doors for criticisms. Sometimes, being proud of your institution is good but as a friend once told me, IT IS NOT BRAGGING IF YOU CAN BACK IT UP.... I am confident I can... can they?
